Nancy Erickson was elected Secretary of the Senate when the Senate convened on January 4, 2007, for the 110th Congress. She is the thirty-second person, and the sixth woman, to serve as Secretary of the Senate.
As an elected officer of the Senate, the Secretary of the Senate supervises an extensive array of offices and services to expedite the day-to-day operations of the United States Senate. Nancy is a sixteen year veteran of Senator Daschle's staff; she held a variety of positions in the legislative, scheduling, and constituent outreach functions of the office. She was named Deputy Chief of Staff following Senator Daschle's election as Democratic Leader. Most recently, Nancy has served as the Democratic Representative in the Senate Sergeant at Arms office, a position appointed by Senator Harry Reid.
